Assistant Director

Under general supervision, the Assistant Director is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, coordinating, and implementing the curriculum, and managing the day-to-day operations, activities and teachers of The Kingdom Kids Learning Center. The Assistant Director will work as acting director in the Director of Childcare/Preschool’s absence. The Assistant Director also serves as a Lead Teacher in either the Infant, Toddler or Preschool Operations (if needed).

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works directly with the Director of Childcare/Preschool to support and execute program policy, curriculum, and assessment. Assists in the day-to-day operations, including staffing. Will act as the Director in the acting Directors’ absence.

  • Lead by example; encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching.

​

  • Actively participate in the check-in and check-out process, being available to answer any questions the parents may have about their child's day.

​

  • Ensure a healthy classroom environment – including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of all children.

​

  • Supervise teacher assistants and classroom volunteers to ensure they are following planned activities, hygiene, and safety standards.

​

  • Conducts assessments and observations on children and assigns staff to assist with this process.

​

  • Extensive knowledge about the program; giving parents a tour of the facility and answering any question regarding the program.

​

  • Follow all center policies and state regulations.

​

  • Collaborate with staff to ensure adherence to quality standards in accordance with center guidelines, and state and local requirements; implement improvements where needed.

​

  • Provides direct childcare and interacts with all children; ensures the safety, care, well-being, and promotion of developmental milestones for children in the program.

​

  • Engages children with books, toys, and structured activities and is a role model for other staff members. Conducts circle time, arts and crafts, songs, and games.

​

  • Supervises and monitors children’s play activities and provides caregivers with ideas when needed.

​

  • Provides for the individual needs of children including changing diapers, feeding, napping, and dressing children.

​

  • Communicates all child related milestones, concerns, suggestions to the parents in our program.

​

  • Provide excellent guest service - ensure childcare staff does the same.

​

  • Assist the director in the hiring of childcare staff members.

​

  • Directly trains or helps the lead teachers in training staff in each classroom.

​

  • Participate in on-going leadership and child developmental training programs and apply new ideas to the program.

​

  • Maintain KKLC policies, procedures, and programs.

​

  • Conducts fire and safety drills. Maintains records of those.

​

  • Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.

​

  • Assist infant/toddler/preschool lead teachers in creating monthly schedule.

​

  • Maintain positive and informative attitude with all parents. Creates family outreach activities.

​

  • Open and close the facility when needed.

​

  • Collect childcare information and paperwork from parents.

​

  • Responsible for ensuring all children's needs are met each day.

​

  • Encourage creativity and excitement within daily groups of children and teachers.

​

  • Developing age-appropriate activities, schedules, and menus.

​

  • Educated on all safety and liability issues. Ensure all documentation and forms are filled out correctly. Always ensure a child safe environment.

​

  • Maintain child and staff ratios. Staff appropriately each day.

​

  • Develop proactive communication lines between the parents and the staff.

​

  • Maintain staff records as outlined in Rules Regulating Childcare Manual.

​

  • Work with director on the enrollment and registration of children

​

  • Communicate via phone, email, text to parents and/or staff regarding any needs that may arise.

Supervisory Duties

  • Supervision of Child Care Assistants and Supervisors.

​

  • Researches and conducts team leadership activities. Provides support to all staff.

​

  • Direct Supervision and interaction with children.

​

  • Conducts bi-monthly meeting.

​

  • Conducts performance evaluations on caregivers.

​

  • Conducts parent teacher conferences as needed.

​

  • Creates a developmentally appropriate curriculum and assures infant and toddler staff adheres to curriculum.

​

  • Monitor and purchase food and supplies, as needed.

Other Duties

  • Maintain a clean, sanitary facility.

​

  • Daily assessment of facility safety

​

  • Other duties as assigned and required to maintain the Childcare facility.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or Bachelor's degree preferably in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education

​

  • CDA or other Early Childhood Credential​

​

  • Current on CPR/First Aid or wiling to maintain CPR/First Aid Certification​

​

  • Completion of Early Childhood Development Course (3 semester hours) every 5 years or maintain training hours quarterly​

​

  • At least 2 years’ experience working directly with children.

​

  • Possession of a valid State Driver’s License.

​

  • ​Must complete Prevention of Shaken Baby, Recognition and Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect, Prevention of SIDS, Standard Precautions and FEMA within 90 days of hire.​

​

  • Basic accounting skills 

​

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of child development from birth to 5 years.

​

  • Dynamic people, management, communication, and guest service skills.

​

  • High physical and mental energy level.

​

  • Quick reflexes and responses.

​

  • Ability to focus on many children at one time.

​

  • Attend trainings and college courses as needed.

​

  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

​

  • Knowledge of computer skills and operation of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel. Can create charts and tables.

​

  • ​Ability to stand and sit frequently; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; walk; talk; hear; taste; smell.​

​

  • Ability to lift between 10-60 pounds.

​

  • Must comply to wearing a face mask at all times in facility to prevent the spread of COVID, flu, RSV, and other common illnesses
